The Share the Burden Fair in Chico, California!

On Aug. 7th, many Chico businesses are banding together to help our local cancer patients by donating a percentage of the day’s profits. By making a purchase at their shop that day, you too can stand up and tell our cancer community that you care about their fight.

Also that day, come by our Share the Burden Fair. There will be fun activities such as a bounce house, raffle prizes, a fun-slide, and even some of our local firemen in a dunk tank! Come play with us, then get lunch at one of the surrounding businesses to help out even more.

People Who Have Had Their Lives Touched By Cancer Copay Relief

Cancer moves in our society like trickling streams, wetting the entire ground as it goes.  With the American Cancer Society releasing figures that one in two men, and one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives, everyone is touched by this.  Everyone feels its icy fingers crawling in the substrate. 

Here are a few stories of those who have been affected closely by cancer.

Riikka Ahtonen

We lost our mom to cancer.We took care of her at home all the way and sat with her while she died...really hard times...shell never be forgotten and her life continues within us.

Brooks Taylor

On February 9, 2001 my son (Shane) was born, that night my wife (Kristine Rogacz Taylor) had major fevers, the docs assumed it was an infection from the c-section, five days later (on valentines day) we found out she had leukemia, they moved Kristi to the oncology section of the hospital and i took our son home for t...he first time by myself. That was the longest 20 minute drive of my life. Kristi was in and out of the hospital for a little over a year. We moved back to Philadelphia to be with her family and battle cancer at fox chase cancer center. We were able to have some family time together but she was never healthy. She went through numerous rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant which she did not survive. I have moved on and I am remarried but I do my best to make sure Shane knows about his "first"mommy.

Sharon Holding

My last Chemo treatment tomorrow...yea ! Hopefully my body rebounds quickly and I can again have the energy to do anything. Start Radiation in Dec.  Continue Herceptin the rest of the year. That's okay, cause I'm Still Standing...

Sheila Prins

“Having cancer is an experience that changes your life, not only for the period you get the treatment, but for the rest of your life. There are scars which are visible: the big scar on my left shoulder, the scar on my chest from the porth-a-cath. But the scars on the inside are there as well, only for those to see whom I choose.”—Sheila Prins.
Sheila Prins is recently finished her treatment for an EWING sarcoma, bone cancer, in The Netherlands.  Read her compelling account of diagnosis, treatment, and how she and her lovely family rallied together.  It is interesting to compare cancer treatment in a socialized medicine system."
